Our Take on Windheim Plumbing & Heating
A company that has operated continuously since 1911 and still lists two active New Jersey master plumber license numbers is rare, and it makes SmartFix Home Improvement, Newark's thinnest-reviewed listing, easy to finally replace. The BBB accreditation since 2016 and A+ rating add a second layer of outside verification on top of the century-plus track record.

About Windheim Plumbing & Heating
Windheim Plumbing & Heating has worked out of a Franklin Avenue address in Nutley since 1911, which makes it one of the oldest plumbing companies operating anywhere near Newark, more than a century of continuous trading under the same name. The company holds two active New Jersey master plumber license numbers, #143 and #10985, both checkable against the state board, and it's been a BBB-accredited business with an A+ rating since 2016.
What separates Windheim from a lot of the plumbers that show up in a Newark search is that it names Newark specifically as a service town on its own site, alongside Bloomfield, Belleville, Kearny, and several other Essex and Bergen County communities, rather than leaving coverage to a generic "greater metro area" claim. Several plumbers based just as close to Newark stop short of naming the city directly, which made Windheim an easy call for this list once that confirmation turned up.
Day-to-day work covers the calls that make up most of a Newark-area plumber's week: drain cleaning, water heater repair, gas line work, and general residential repairs, backed by an emergency line for issues that can't wait. Newark's housing stock, a mix of prewar multi-family buildings and postwar single-family homes, brings its own recurring plumbing problems, aging galvanized supply lines, sewer laterals installed decades before modern materials became standard, and a company with more than a hundred years of institutional history in the area has likely seen most of it before.
The 4.8 rating from 114 Google reviews, read September 18, 2026, reflects that long track record. Reviews describe a company that customers have called on repeatedly across multiple properties, sometimes across generations of the same family, which is the kind of loyalty that doesn't show up for a business that's only been around a few years. That pattern lines up with the BBB accreditation held since 2016 without any noted lapse.
Windheim is based in Nutley, a few miles northwest of Newark's city line, rather than in Newark itself, so it's worth confirming current response times for your specific Newark neighborhood when you call, the same advice that applies to any plumber dispatching from just outside city limits.
For Newark homeowners who want a plumber with a verifiable license, a genuinely long institutional history in the area, and an explicit commitment to serving the city rather than a vague regional claim, Windheim Plumbing & Heating is a strong, easy-to-check option for both routine plumbing work and emergencies.
