Our Take on Foothills Locksmiths
Foothills Locksmiths is a real storefront with a showroom, vans and a 1986 start date, which is rare in a trade full of call-centre listings. It is a weekday daytime shop, so it fits planned work, key cutting and high security upgrades better than a midnight lockout.

Company Background
About Foothills Locksmiths
Foothills Locksmiths covers far-south Calgary from a showroom at 11769 40 Street SE, in the East Shepard Industrial area. For homeowners and businesses in the southeast and far south of the city, that is a short drive to a counter staffed by a technician, which matters when a key has to be cut or a lock looked at in person. The company says it was established in 1986 and describes its team as trained, licensed and POST certified.
The shop is the heart of the business. Product displays let customers handle and compare hardware before buying: deadbolts, knobs and lever handles, push button locks, exit devices, furniture locks, glass and aluminum door hardware, padlocks and safes, with custom orders available. Foothills Locksmiths is an authorized dealer of Mul-T-Lock and Abloy Protec 2, which use patented restricted keys for key control at homes and businesses. The site also lists access control systems, safe sales with delivery and installation, and hardware from Schlage, Yale, Sargent, Von Duprin, dormakaba, LCN, Ilco and Adams Rite. When a customer cannot come in, service vans go out to the job.
Reviews are mostly about the counter. One customer needed commercial keys cut quickly and was told to bring them back if there were any problems, and a long-time customer prefers the shop's keys over a Canadian Tire machine for bent or oddly shaped blanks. Charles singled out Hans as knowledgeable and generous with his time, and another reviewer found the owner helpful. The Google rating is 4.9 from 95 Google reviews, read 2026-10-28. The fair criticism is a one-star review from a customer who found a technician curt about a smart lock cylinder, and another reviewer noted the shop does not cut fancy key fobs.
It suits far-south Calgary households and businesses that want a walk-in shop, key duplication, high security cylinders or a hardware showroom. It suits less well anyone who needs a night or weekend lockout, since hours are weekdays 8 am to 5 pm, or who needs transponder fobs cut. Alberta does not issue a provincial locksmith licence, so ask for the City of Calgary business licence, proof of insurance, a firm quote and photo ID. Also ask what the service call fee is, whether the technician arrives in a marked vehicle, whether entry will be non-destructive, and what warranty covers parts and labour.
