Our Take on ABOE Lockworks Ltd
ABOE Lockworks Ltd is one of the longer-running locksmith shops in Calgary, with a real storefront on Centre Street North and reviews that keep mentioning honest quotes. The weekday-only regular hours and thin credential details on the site are the trade-offs.

Company Background
About ABOE Lockworks Ltd
ABOE Lockworks Ltd has worked out of a storefront at 1308 Centre Street North in Crescent Heights since 1988, which makes it a familiar stop for inner-city homeowners who need keys cut, locks rekeyed or a stubborn deadbolt replaced. The company started in 1978 when two young Calgary locksmiths, Bruce Attwell and Ernie Olson, combined their initials into the ABOE name and began with two old vans. Today the site describes a family-run shop with journeymen locksmiths and a fleet of eight vans.
Residential work covers door hardware, mechanical, electronic and smart deadbolts, mailbox and cabinet locks, high-security key systems and rekeying with new pins and keys. The company says it provides sales, service and warranty on Weiser products and also carries Bolt Buddy deadbolts. Commercial work runs wider: master key systems, key and card access, door closers, emergency exit devices, glass and aluminum door hardware, steel door replacement and fire-rated doors, with Adams Rite and Von Duprin/Allegion hardware named on the site. It also lists automatic door openers, CCTV cameras and safes.
Reviewers describe the practical side. Dave replaced and rekeyed a front door and garage lock to match the rest of one house and was upfront about costs. Kris repaired a building lock that two other companies had worked on. Austin and Ryan rekeyed a number of locks for a customer who said the phone quote held on site with no upsell, and Levi changed six exterior door locks on time and answered security questions. A traveller had two spare trailer keys cut for $10 in about ten minutes. ABOE Lockworks holds 4.7 from 250 Google reviews, read 2026-10-28. None of the reviews we read described a problem, but regular hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and the site's mention of 24/7 emergency service is worth confirming by phone.
It suits Calgary homeowners, landlords and small businesses who want an established shop they can visit in person. It suits less well anyone who needs a Saturday walk-in or a particular smart lock brand, since the site names none beyond Weiser. Before booking, ask for a firm written quote or service-call fee, whether the technician arrives in a marked vehicle with photo ID, whether a lockout can be opened without drilling, and what warranty covers parts and labour. Alberta does not issue a provincial locksmith licence, so also ask for the City of Calgary business licence, proof of insurance, a firm quote and photo ID.
