Editorial Review
Our Take on Ability Lock & Safe Ltd
Ability Lock & Safe Ltd is the pick for businesses that want master keying, Medeco restricted keys or a safe from a real SE shop with decades behind it. Reviews are warm and specific, with a $10 rekey and a contractor who calls it a go-to. Weekday-only Google hours are the catch for urgent weekend calls.

Company Background
About Ability Lock & Safe Ltd
Ability Lock & Safe Ltd works from a shop at #1, 5301 21A Avenue SE in the Forest Lawn Industrial area of southeast Calgary, and its strongest suit is commercial hardware and safes. The company says it has operated since 1986. On the commercial side that means master key system design and maintenance, Medeco high-security restricted keys, Kaba E-Plex and Unican keyless locks, panic bars, door closers, electric strikes, card readers and time-delay safes. Safes come from Brawn Security Products and cover fire and burglary, cash, data, gun and wall models, some by special order.
Homeowners are covered as well. The shop rekeys and repairs locks, installs deadbolts and keyless entry, and handles lockouts, with a stated aim of damage-free entry in most cases. One reviewer, a general contractor, praised Tanner and the team for finding the right fix on both residential and commercial jobs. Another had a new deadbolt rekeyed in under five minutes for $10, and Andrey was thanked for repairing locks, hinges and doors across a condominium complex. A customer said Chris quoted $65 for a car ignition cylinder after two other shops asked $135 and $200. The company lists itself as an affiliate of the Professional Locksmiths Association of Alberta and says its locksmiths are bonded and insured.
Ability Lock & Safe Ltd holds 4.6 from 198 Google reviews, read 2026-10-28. It serves Calgary and also runs a second shop in Airdrie under the name Airdrie Lock & Key.
It suits property managers, businesses and contractors who want master keying, restricted keys or a safe supplier with a walk-in counter. It suits less well anyone who needs a weekend lockout, because Google shows the shop closed Saturday and Sunday even though the website mentions 24/7 emergency service. Before booking, ask for a written quote or service-call fee, photo ID and a marked vehicle, whether the lockout will be non-destructive, and the warranty on parts and labour. Alberta does not issue a provincial locksmith licence, so ask for the City of Calgary business licence, proof of insurance, a firm quote and photo ID.
