Company Background
About Oake Masonry - Shane Oake - Bricks Mortar Chimney Repair
Oake Masonry - Shane Oake - Bricks Mortar Chimney Repair works out of 35 Dale Ave in Scarborough, one of the districts that make up the City of Toronto, and the business is owner-led. Shane Oake says he has been in masonry since 1998 and began running his own jobs in 2004. His own account of his training is hours of interning under skilled restorers, a certificate in Working at Heights, and a licence with the City of Toronto. The site claims over 1000 projects completed.
The chimney side of the business is masonry work. The services page lists chimney repairs and replacements, from replacing parts to full rebuilds, along with removing a chimney and capping it off, or reducing one to save on cost. Shane writes that some companies insist a chimney must be rebuilt when a lesser repair would do, and that he looks for the fix that fits the customer's budget. Around the chimney he also does brick replacement, tuckpointing with tinted mortar, crack repair, parging, window sill repair and block replacement. He matches new work to old using reclaimed bricks, mortar dye and dyed bricks. The site does not list chimney sweeping, camera inspections or liner installs.
Google shows 5.0 from 55 Google reviews, read October 22, 2026. None of the five reviews we read mention a chimney job. They describe foundation wall patching, tuckpointing, verandah regrouting, parging, flagstone and a retaining wall. David praised a detailed written quote and a contract marked paid. Janice said Shane followed up months later and the repairs had held through winter. Carla said two jobs came in on promise and her contractor friend called the quotes very reasonable.
The fair caveats are practical. Shane says he works spring, summer and fall, that consults are free but limited to evenings, rainy days and some weekends, and that he is not the fastest at getting a quote out. Hours on Google run 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM Monday to Thursday, until 5:30 PM Friday and until 4:00 PM on weekends.
This suits owners of older brick homes in Scarborough, North York, Etobicoke and East York whose chimney needs a brick-level repair, rebuild or removal. It suits less well anyone wanting a routine sweep, a camera inspection or a new liner. Ontario does not licence chimney sweeps or masons, so ask for a WSIB clearance certificate and proof of liability insurance, ask whether anyone doing flue or wood-burning work holds WETT certification, and check with the City of Toronto whether a rebuild needs a building permit. Ask also how the quote handles mortar and brick matching, and when the work can start.
