10 Best HVAC Companies in Edmonton, AB

Edmonton's best HVAC companies span founder-run shops with decades of local awards to national brands with rent-or-buy equipment. Romaniuk Heating and Air Conditioning tops this list for its 35-plus years of tenure, BBB A-minus rating, and multi-trade coverage, followed closely by Acclaimed! Heating, Cooling & Furnace Cleaning, still run by its founding owners three decades on with ten consecutive Consumer Choice Awards.

Our top 10 hvac companies in Edmonton

Edmonton's winters make a working furnace a matter of safety, not just comfort, and the city's HVAC market reflects that: several of the companies below have operated here for 30, 40, even nearly 50 years. In Alberta, gasfitting and refrigeration mechanic work is certified through the provincial Safety Codes Council, not a municipal licensing board, and not through Ontario's Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) despite that acronym appearing on a couple of local company sites, almost certainly a leftover template reference rather than an applicable Alberta credential. Homeowners should ask any contractor for their specific Safety Codes Council certification number rather than assuming a TSSA reference means anything locally. This list draws on Google ratings and review volume, each company's own published credentials, tenure, and service scope, and was built with all ten candidates clearing a 4.5-star, 50-review bar inside Edmonton proper.

How we chose the best hvac companies in Edmonton

Read our full ranking methodology →

Companies were sourced from Google Maps search results for HVAC services in Edmonton, AB, and each was vetted for a real company-operated website, a rating of at least 4.5 with at least 50 reviews, a physical location inside Edmonton rather than a satellite suburb, and no mismatch between the name, address, and phone number shown on Google versus the company's own site. All ten candidates cleared that bar, so this list runs a full ten deep. Ranking order reflects a combination of Google rating, review volume, published third-party credentials such as BBB ratings and industry awards, years of local tenure, and the breadth of services each company states on its own site, rather than Google rank alone. Alberta's gasfitting and refrigeration mechanic licensing runs through the provincial Safety Codes Council; readers should confirm that certification directly with any contractor rather than relying on a company's own credentials page.

How to choose a hvac company in Edmonton

  • Verify insurance and credentials

Ask for a current certificate of insurance and confirm registration or licensing with the authority that issues it, not with the company.

  • Ask for a written estimate

Scope, materials, removal, disposal and who pulls the permit should all be named on the page rather than agreed on the doorstep.

  • Compare multiple quotes

Two or three bids on the same scope. A number far below the others usually means something has been left out of it.

  • Understand the warranty

Separate the manufacturer's warranty on materials from the company's own warranty on the work, and get both in writing.

  • Ask who performs the work

Find out whether the crew are employees or subcontractors, and who supervises them on the day.

  • Check recent local projects

Ask for addresses or photographs of comparable jobs finished nearby in the last year or two.

  • Avoid high-pressure sales

A discount that expires today, or a knock on the door after a storm, is a reason to slow down rather than sign.

  • Get everything in writing

Change orders, timeline and payment schedule included, before the first payment changes hands.

Questions to ask before hiring

  • Are you insured, and can you send the certificate?
  • How long have you worked in this area?
  • Will you provide a written estimate with materials listed?
  • What warranty do you offer on the work itself?
  • Do you use subcontractors for this job?
  • Who handles permits and inspection?
  • What would you recommend here, and why?
  • How are unexpected costs handled once work starts?
  • What is the estimated timeline from start to finish?
  • Can you provide recent local references?

Red flags

  • No verifiable local business address or registration
  • Pressure to sign on the first visit
  • A demand for full payment up front
  • An offer to cover or waive your insurance deductible
  • Refusal to put warranty terms in writing
  • A quote that will not itemize scope

HVAC companies in Edmonton FAQs

  • How is HVAC contractor licensing handled in Alberta?

Gasfitting and refrigeration mechanic work in Alberta is certified through the provincial Safety Codes Council, not through a municipal board or Ontario's Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). A couple of Edmonton company sites reference TSSA, which is almost certainly a leftover template line rather than an applicable Alberta credential, so ask any contractor directly for their Safety Codes Council certification number.

  • Why does this Edmonton list include ten companies while some other cities only have five?

All ten Edmonton HVAC candidates researched met the bar of a 4.5-star rating, at least 50 reviews, a real company website, and a location inside Edmonton proper, so this list runs a full ten deep. Some smaller cities have a thinner qualifying pool and get a shorter list instead.

  • Which Edmonton HVAC companies also handle plumbing or electrical work?

Legacy Heating and Cooling, Romaniuk Heating and Air Conditioning, Enercare McKinley, Furnace Family, Weiss-Johnson, and Reliance The Furnace Company all run plumbing divisions alongside HVAC, and several of those also cover electrical work, useful if you want one company for more than just heating and cooling.
