Flooring in Edmonton starts below the surface. A lot of the housing stock dates from the 1970s and 1980s, and many of those townhomes and bungalows have tired carpet over basement slabs that are not level. Reviewers on this list describe floors that needed levelling over bare concrete before anything could go down, and condo owners who learned that the building board wanted a say in the underlay and the work hours. Newer southwest and west-end builds raise different questions, mostly about product choice for large open floors.
Climate matters too. Prairie winters are dry, and wood moves when the indoor air does. One installer on this list says its warranty excludes humidity outside a 35 to 55 percent range, so ask any company how it tests the subfloor and what it expects you to do after the floor is in. Luxury vinyl plank and engineered hardwood are common answers for basements and busy households, while solid hardwood suits owners who accept the upkeep. Several shops cluster along 51 Avenue NW in the south, which makes comparing samples in person easy.
Two checks protect you. Alberta has no provincial licence for flooring installers, so ask each company for its City of Edmonton business licence, a certificate of liability insurance and a WCB clearance letter, and make sure the name on those papers matches your contract. Then get the scope in writing: removal, subfloor work, underlay, transitions, stairs and disposal. The ten companies below range from install-only crews to full showrooms, and each profile notes what is published about warranty and what you should ask before you sign.

Methodology
How we chose the best flooring companies in Edmonton
We searched Google Maps for flooring contractors, flooring installation companies and hardwood flooring in Edmonton, and merged the results in the order Google returned them. To be listed, a company needed a rating of 4.5 or higher from at least 60 Google reviews, an operating status, a working website, a real logo, at least four genuine photos and a staffed address in Edmonton. We rejected chains, companies with no website, listings with fewer reviews, stuffed or duplicate business names, and shops outside the city such as those in Sherwood Park and St. Albert. Companies are listed in Google's order, not ranked by our opinion of quality. Ratings and review counts were read on November 1, 2026. No company paid for a place on this list, and we did not verify licences, insurance or WCB coverage ourselves, so check them before you hire.
Do flooring installers need a licence in Edmonton?
Alberta has no provincial licence for flooring installers. Ask each company for its City of Edmonton business licence, a certificate of liability insurance and a WCB clearance letter, and check that the business name on those papers matches your contract. Get the scope and price in writing before you pay a deposit.
Which floor type suits an Edmonton basement or a dry winter home?
Luxury vinyl plank and engineered hardwood tolerate basements and swings in humidity better than solid hardwood. Solid hardwood can shrink and gap if indoor air stays dry for months. Whatever you pick, ask the company how it tests the subfloor and whether the slab needs levelling first. One installer on this list excludes humidity outside a 35 to 55 percent range from its warranty.
