Editorial Review

Our Take on Building Works Ltd

Building Works Ltd brings envelope engineering habits to wet concrete, which is a good fit when the leak has a structural or exterior cause. Homeowners who only need interior drainage should confirm that service before booking, because it is not on the website. Reviews are consistently positive, though many describe envelope repairs rather than basement drainage.

I do not normally post reviews BUT - Please think twice before hiring this company - we hired them and their people showed up one day a week two days at most and usually worked from 10 - 2:30 - they continually quoted bad weather as the reason for not being on site BUT when the sun is shining and it is 18 above - not sure what better weather they would want to work in. Project is now at least one week behind schedule. Please think twice before hiring these people.

We had a great experience with Mehdi and his team! They were very professional, efficient, and friendly. The wall and ceiling repairs were done so well that you can barely see any signs of the repair. We are very happy with the results and highly recommend Building Works Calgary Ltd.!

I was very pleased with the work at my home. The employees, Roy, Eugene and Eduardo were pleasant, efficient and used their equipment with focused experience. And the owner, manager Eric, dropped by to check and ask how it was going.

Had a very difficult to diagnose water issue in my basement that multiple people had a hard time figuring out. Tim has the keen eyes to see the problem. Nathan has the hands to fix it so well that I don't think I need to worry about it ever again. Thank you Nathan and Tim!

We had a great experience with mold remediation and wall repair, from start to finish, working with Sylvia, Mark, and Dennis. A big thank you to Dennis, who is reliable and professional. Would highly recommend.

Company Background

About Building Works Ltd

Building Works Ltd approaches wet basements and leaking concrete the way a building envelope firm would, by finding where water gets in before deciding how to stop it. The company works from 2732 5th Avenue NE in Calgary and serves the city and surrounding areas. Its Krause family owners trace three generations in construction, and in 2010 the family acquired Mold Squad, a Calgary mold remediation and envelope restoration business established in 1995, which now operates as a division.

On the below grade side, the website lists foundation crack repair, repair of leaky floor cracks, concrete and foundation wall waterproofing, leaky basement window and window well repair, parkade and parking garage leak repair, elevator pit waterproofing and protective overlays. Crack injection and sealing of pipe penetrations appear in its project photos. Infrared thermal imaging, run by a certified thermographer, is used to find moisture and concrete failures without opening walls. The company is a certified applicator for Siplast liquid applied waterproofing systems, Dryvit cladding and DeNeef concrete products. Technicians hold IICRC water restoration and applied structural drying credentials, and Dieter and Scott are BCIT certified building envelope specialists. Building Works Ltd is also a member of the Canadian Condominium Institute and the Alberta Building Envelope Council, and it lists a BBB profile.

Customers praise communication. Reviewers single out project manager Mark and Tim for clear quotes and regular updates, and crew members Baggy, Buk and Nat for tidy sites. The rating is 4.8 from 317 Google reviews, read October 20, 2026. Most of the reviews we read describe envelope, window, deck and water damage repairs rather than classic interior drainage work, so check that the company has done a job like yours.

Building Works Ltd suits condo boards, property managers and owners whose leak starts in the concrete, windows or exterior walls. It suits less well a homeowner who wants only a sump pump or interior drain tile system, since those are not listed on its site. Alberta has no trade specific waterproofing licence, so confirm the business licence on the City of Calgary lookup, check building permits there, review Alberta Safety Codes permits, and ask Alberta Consumer Protection about business licensing. Ask for a written scope, the product system, warranty terms and proof of insurance before you book.
