Our Take on Effect Home Builders Ltd
Effect has the deepest named team and award list of the general contractors here, and it designs and builds in house. It is a custom and infill builder first, so smaller jobs are not its focus.

Company Background
About Effect Home Builders Ltd
Effect Home Builders works from 8819 92 Street NW in Edmonton and has built custom homes, infill houses and renovations since 2001, according to its About page. The company says it began at a friend's wedding, went on to build one of Canada's first Net Zero energy homes in the Belgravia Green project, and now runs a team of about 25 with carpentry, design and project management in house. Its site lists a Build Green Maverick Award and a long run of BILD Edmonton and CHBA awards.
The work is mostly new custom construction, including infill lots in established neighbourhoods and high-performance homes, with featured projects that include a renovation. Small repair jobs are not the pitch. The people are named. Les Wold is general manager and a founding member, Scott Wilson leads design and sales and has designed homes in Edmonton for 14 years, Dave Brettelle is a project manager and Red Seal carpenter with 17 years, Dominic Emmelkamp runs production, and Will Berger is site supervisor and warranty coordinator.
Reviewers describe long, detailed jobs. One said their build took 16 months from plans to key in hand, with Dominic and site manager Nick answering every question. Another homeowner, 18 months into a very unique home, said the crew worked with their architects from day one. The pages we read do not publish prices, a licence number or warranty terms, so ask for each.
Effect has 4.9 from 88 Google reviews, read October 31, 2026. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Effect suits owners planning a custom home, an infill build or a large renovation who want design and construction under one roof. It suits less well smaller projects or tight budgets. Before booking, ask for a written contract, the builder licence and new home warranty details that Alberta requires for new homes, WCB clearance, and check the City of Edmonton business licence.
