Blocked drains behave differently in a city built on Red River clay. Ground that swells and shrinks with the seasons puts stress on clay and cast iron sewer laterals, and Winnipeg has plenty of both under houses in Norwood, Elmwood, Wolseley and the older parts of St. James. Roots find the joints, bellies form where the pipe has settled, and the first sign is usually a floor drain that gurgles or a basement that takes on water during a heavy August storm. A company that leads with drain cleaning rather than treating it as a sideline is working in the middle of that reality every day, and that is the shape of rocket rooter inc.

The advertised range covers the jobs most homeowners actually phone about. Main line blockages that back up every fixture in the house. Toilets stopped by wipes and cotton swabs, which the company's own site is fairly blunt about. Tub and shower drains slowed by soap and hair. Kitchen and bathroom sinks, dishwashers that will not empty. Beyond clearing, the list extends to faucet repair, water heater service, toilet repair and sewer installation, so a call that starts as a clog can move into replacement work without bringing in a second contractor. Septic tank service is listed as a newer addition, relevant for properties outside the city sewer network on the rural edges.

Separate residential and commercial streams are worth noting. Commercial drain cleaning is a different job: grease lines behind a restaurant, floor drains in a shop, scheduled maintenance rather than crisis response. Property managers and small business owners who need someone who understands both sides will find that split useful.

Around the clock availability is the other defining feature. The published hours show 24 hours, seven days, and emergency response is central to how the business presents itself. That is genuinely valuable in February when a sewer backs up at midnight and the alternative is waiting until Monday. It also raises the question every homeowner should ask before agreeing to anything: what does an after hours call actually cost compared with a weekday morning? Overtime rates, minimum call-out charges and travel time are normal in this trade, but they should be stated before a van is dispatched. The site advertises transparent pricing and a satisfaction guarantee; ask for the specifics of both in writing rather than taking the slogan at face value.

A few other things are worth raising on the phone. Whether a camera inspection is included or billed separately, because a recurring blockage in an old lateral usually needs eyes on the pipe rather than repeated snaking. Whether they will provide footage or a written report, which you will want if a repair or a replacement follows. What happens if the line clears but collapses again within a few weeks. And where responsibility sits between your property line and the city main, since in Winnipeg the homeowner generally carries the cost of the portion on private property, and that line is not always where people assume it is.

Who it suits: households and businesses with a drain problem now, people who want one number to call at any hour, and property managers who need a repeat contractor for routine maintenance. Who it may suit less: anyone planning a full bathroom renovation, a whole house repipe or new build rough-in, where a general plumbing and mechanical contractor with a larger crew is likely the better match. The emphasis here reads as drain and sewer work with supporting plumbing repairs.

Winnipeg has no shortage of options, from national franchise drain brands with recognisable trucks to one-truck operators who work word of mouth. Franchises tend to be consistent but pricier; independents can be cheaper and harder to reach at 2am. A mid-sized local firm trading since 2009 sits between those, and rocket rooter inc falls in that middle band, with a Google Business Profile rating of 4.8 from 160 reviews as read on September 27, 2026. That review count suggests steady volume over years rather than a recent burst. Read a handful of the most recent ones, look for comments on pricing and on whether the problem stayed fixed, and get the quote confirmed before work begins.
