What We Like

• 5 out of 5 from 147 Google reviews, read on September 28, 2026
• Broad residential service list including EV chargers, hot tub wiring and safety inspections
• Small locally owned operation, so the quoting electrician is usually the one on site
• Covers Cochrane and Airdrie as well as Calgary
• Says it provides detailed upfront quotes before work begins

Things to Consider

• Trading only since 2023, so there is a shorter track record than long-established Calgary firms
• Google shows 24 hour availability while the website refers to office hours, so emergency response is worth confirming by phone
• No pricing or after-hours call-out rate is published
• Licensing and journeyman claims come from the company's own website and should be verified

Calgary homes span a wide range of electrical eras, from 1950s bungalows in the northwest with two-wire branch circuits and no ground, through 1970s and 80s suburbs with 100 amp panels that were generous at the time, to newer builds in the far north and south that arrived with conduit stubbed to the garage for a car charger. An electrician working the whole city has to be comfortable in all of it. The service range that sunshine electric services inc publishes, repairs and troubleshooting, LED lighting upgrades, wiring installation, EV charging, smoke and CO alarms, safety inspections, hot tub wiring, appliance wiring and commercial work, reads like the list of a residential service outfit that also takes tenant improvement and small commercial jobs when they come.

On the fit question, this suits people who would rather deal with a small shop. The company describes itself as locally owned, born and raised in Calgary, with personalised service and attention to detail that it says larger companies cannot match. That is its own framing, but the structure behind it is real enough: a small crew usually means the person who quoted the job is the person who shows up, and there is one point of contact when something needs sorting afterwards. It is less obviously the right call for a large multi-phase build, a strata-wide retrofit across several buildings, or anything needing a big crew on site for weeks. For a service panel upgrade, a basement development rough-in, a garage subpanel or a Level 2 charger, the scale is well matched.

The review record is the strongest single piece of evidence here. Google showed a 5 out of 5 rating from 147 reviews, read on September 28, 2026. For a company that says it started in 2023, that is a lot of feedback in a short window, and a perfect average across that many entries is uncommon. The company also says a large share of its work arrives by referral, which tends to go hand in hand with that kind of review pattern. Worth reading a handful of the reviews yourself to see which job types come up most.

EV charger installation deserves its own note in this city. A 40 or 48 amp circuit for a Level 2 unit is often the point where an older Calgary panel runs out of room, and the honest answer is sometimes a load calculation and a service upgrade rather than a simple new breaker. Ask whether the quote covers the permit and the ENMAX or utility coordination if the service needs increasing, and whether any load management device is being used to avoid a panel change. Hot tub wiring raises similar questions: a GFCI disconnect within the required distance, correct burial or conduit routing across a Calgary yard, and an inspection to close the permit.

On credentials, the company states that its electricians are licensed journeymen and that work meets current safety and permitting standards. Treat that as a claim from its own site and verify it the way you would with any contractor. Ask for the master electrician licence number and the business contractor licence, confirm the permit will be pulled in the company's name rather than yours, and ask for a certificate of insurance and WCB clearance before anyone starts. Those are quick questions and a legitimate electrician will not mind them.

Published hours on the Google profile show open 24 hours every day of the week. The website is more measured, saying the company operates seven days a week in Calgary and area and that enquiries are answered during office hours. In practice that difference matters at two in the morning, so if you have burning smell, a hot panel or a dead half-house in winter, phone rather than fill in the form, and ask directly what the after-hours call-out rate is before agreeing to a visit. Most Calgary electricians charge a premium evening and weekend rate, and the figure is not published anywhere in this case.

Compared with the alternatives in Calgary, sunshine electric services inc sits in the middle band: smaller and more personal than the large branded service companies with fleets and flat-rate pricing books, more organised than a single licensed electrician working out of a van. Expect quoted work rather than a membership plan, and expect to be dealing with the same small group each time. Get the quote in writing with the permit and inspection included, and the rest is straightforward.
