Our top 10 hvac companies in Phoenix

Phoenix summers push air conditioners to their limit for months at a time, with daytime highs routinely passing 110 degrees between June and September. An AC failure here is not a minor inconvenience, it is a health risk for older residents, infants and pets, which is why response time and honest diagnosis matter as much as price when picking a contractor. Most Phoenix homes run central split systems with the condenser outside, and in older neighborhoods like South Mountain Village and Deer Valley there are plenty of units original to homes built decades ago that are due for replacement rather than another patch repair. Every HVAC contractor working in Arizona, including every company on this list, must hold a license from the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, the state agency that licenses and disciplines contractors. Before hiring anyone for HVAC work in Phoenix, look up their ROC license number on azroc.gov to confirm it is active and matches the business name on the quote. A company that hesitates to give you that number, or gives one that does not match, is a reason to walk away regardless of how good its online reviews look.

How we chose the best hvac companies in Phoenix

Read our full ranking methodology →

We ran two Google Maps searches for HVAC contractors in Phoenix and merged the results in Google's own ranking order, removing duplicates by place ID. Each company had to be OPERATIONAL on Google, rated 4.5 stars or higher, carry at least 50 reviews, maintain a real business website, and be located inside Phoenix city limits rather than a neighboring suburb with a Phoenix-sounding name. We excluded Semper Fi Heating and Cooling and AZ Home Services Group despite strong ratings because their addresses place them in Mesa and Tempe, not Phoenix. Every company's Arizona Registrar of Contractors license, Google rating, review count and website content were checked as of September 23, 2026. No company paid for placement on this list; order follows Google's own search ranking.

How to choose a hvac company in Phoenix

  • Verify insurance and credentials

Ask for a current certificate of insurance and confirm registration or licensing with the authority that issues it, not with the company.

  • Ask for a written estimate

Scope, materials, removal, disposal and who pulls the permit should all be named on the page rather than agreed on the doorstep.

  • Compare multiple quotes

Two or three bids on the same scope. A number far below the others usually means something has been left out of it.

  • Understand the warranty

Separate the manufacturer's warranty on materials from the company's own warranty on the work, and get both in writing.

  • Ask who performs the work

Find out whether the crew are employees or subcontractors, and who supervises them on the day.

  • Check recent local projects

Ask for addresses or photographs of comparable jobs finished nearby in the last year or two.

  • Avoid high-pressure sales

A discount that expires today, or a knock on the door after a storm, is a reason to slow down rather than sign.

  • Get everything in writing

Change orders, timeline and payment schedule included, before the first payment changes hands.

Questions to ask before hiring

  • Are you insured, and can you send the certificate?
  • How long have you worked in this area?
  • Will you provide a written estimate with materials listed?
  • What warranty do you offer on the work itself?
  • Do you use subcontractors for this job?
  • Who handles permits and inspection?
  • What would you recommend here, and why?
  • How are unexpected costs handled once work starts?
  • What is the estimated timeline from start to finish?
  • Can you provide recent local references?

Red flags

  • No verifiable local business address or registration
  • Pressure to sign on the first visit
  • A demand for full payment up front
  • An offer to cover or waive your insurance deductible
  • Refusal to put warranty terms in writing
  • A quote that will not itemize scope

HVAC companies in Phoenix FAQs

  • How do I check if a Phoenix HVAC contractor is actually licensed?

Every HVAC contractor in Arizona must hold a license from the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Look up the license number on azroc.gov and confirm it is active, matches the business name on your quote, and covers the specific work you need done, whether that is air conditioning, plumbing or electrical.

  • How much does AC repair cost in Phoenix?

Service call fees on this list range from a flat $89 at North Valley Mechanical to free diagnostics bundled with a repair at companies like Reeis and Desert Diamond. A full system replacement typically costs far more than a repair, so get at least two quotes, and use a company's free second opinion offer if one is available before approving a full replacement.

  • Why does my AC struggle to keep up during a Phoenix summer?

Phoenix regularly sees daytime highs above 110 degrees from June through September, which pushes any AC system near its rated capacity for months at a time. An aging or undersized unit, poor attic insulation, or leaky ductwork can all make a system run constantly without ever catching up, which is why several companies on this list offer a free second opinion before recommending a full replacement.
