I am writing to share our positive experience with James McKeown of The City Wide Group and to express our sincere appreciation for his honesty, professionalism, and expertise. James visited our home to assess a suspected leak or crack in our foundation and provide an estimate for the necessary repairs, as we had noticed water coming into our basement. From the moment he arrived, James was friendly, thorough, and professional. He carefully assessed the exterior of our home, taking photographs and measurements while sharing his professional insights and recommendations based on his extensive experience. He then conducted a thorough inspection inside our home, checking our sump pump, hot water tank, and other potential sources of the water intrusion. Ultimately, James identified the actual source of the problem: our furnace was leaking water from the condenser hose connected to our central air conditioning unit. This was causing a localized wet patch on the basement carpet, rather than a foundation issue. What impressed us most was James’s honesty and integrity. He explained that, had we proceeded with the foundation repair, the cost would have been approximately $3,000. Instead of recommending unnecessary work, he took the time to properly investigate the situation and identify the real problem, potentially saving our family thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, my experience with another company, The Crack Doctor, was quite different. When I called, I felt there was little interest in attending our home to properly assess the situation before recommending a repair. The representative I spoke with stated, “I send my crew with the intention of repairing a crack once they show up.” This only reinforced how much we appreciated James’s willingness to investigate the issue thoroughly before suggesting any course of action. Thanks to James, we were able to avoid an unnecessary and costly repair. His integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to providing an honest assessment truly set him apart. We are incredibly grateful for his help and would wholeheartedly recommend James McKeown and The City Wide Group to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, trustworthy, and professional service provider. James truly saved the day for our family, and we cannot thank him enough!

A friend of mine recommended City Wide for a cold storage waterproofing job. Patrick and his team did a great job from the get-go. The quote was very reasonable and the workers who completed the job were on time, clean and did and excellent job. So far so good! Would definitely recommend.

Water kept coming into the back part of my basement every time it rained, so I hired The City Wide Group to do exterior waterproofing for that part of the basement. They were referred to me by my next door neighbours who had the same problem a few years ago. The team worked tirelessly, excavating, rebuilding the foundation, and installing their complete waterproofing system. They also re-parged the side of my house above ground, which was much needed. As well, they installed a sump pump in the basement to direct water away from the house during heavy rainstorms. I’m very pleased with all the work the team did and believe that the overall cost was fair and reasonable. It was a pleasure dealing with Tony, the project manager, as well as the three men on the work team. The City Wide Group provided a full warranty for the life of the property. I would highly recommend all of their services.

City Wide Group FAQs

• Is City Wide Group licensed and insured to waterproof basements in Toronto?

Ontario has no waterproofing-specific contractor licence, so the checks that matter are paperwork you request yourself. City Wide Group shows BBB accreditation with an A+ rating, BILD and RenoMark badges, and a Consumer Choice Award it says it first won in 1995. Before signing, ask for a current WSIB clearance certificate, proof of liability insurance and the written warranty, and look the business up on the Ontario Business Registry. The company has operated from 25 Hollinger Road in East York since 1961.

• What are City Wide Group's hours and does it take emergency calls?

Google lists City Wide Group as open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Its website separately advertises a 24 hour line for flooded basements, where crews find how the water got in, stabilize the space and then recommend a permanent fix. The number is +1 416-283-5500. Because the two sources differ, confirm after-hours availability when you call.

• What warranty does City Wide Group give on basement waterproofing?

City Wide Group gives a lifetime, fully transferable warranty on the areas it treats, and the certificate passes to future owners at no charge. Coverage applies to the specific areas and systems listed on your contract, and the company says full terms are explained in writing before work starts. The firm works across Toronto, including East York, Scarborough and North York, and offers a free on-site inspection and written estimate.

• Is City Wide Group licensed and insured?

We checked 0 of 4 credentials against the issuing authority. Verified items carry the date we checked; reported items are what the business told us and we could not independently confirm.

• What areas does City Wide Group serve?

Toronto. Coverage is as the business describes it, cross-checked against where its recent documented work is. Confirm your address before scheduling, particularly at the edge of a service area.

• Does City Wide Group offer emergency service?

Yes, the company lists emergency availability. Response time depends on demand, and after a storm every company in the market is stretched.

• What warranty do they offer?

Lifetime warranty on treated areas against water or moisture entry, fully transferable to future owners at no charge; coverage applies to the areas and systems listed on the contract, with terms explained in writing before work starts.. There are usually two warranties on a job: the manufacturer covers materials, the contractor covers workmanship. Get both in writing and check whether the workmanship coverage transfers if you sell.

• How was this profile built?

Credentials come from issuing authorities, ratings from the company's Google Business Profile with the date we read them, and the editorial take from our own review of estimates, warranty documents and public feedback. Anything the business told us is labelled as reported.

• Can a business pay to improve its profile?

A business can subscribe to manage its own listing details, and it can buy a labelled sponsored placement. Neither changes a ranking position or the editorial assessment on this page.
