Editorial Review
Our Take on Custom Air Conditioning and Heating Co.
Carrying five separate brands, including a geothermal line most Columbus HVAC companies don't offer, gives Custom Air more flexibility on system choice than most competitors on this list. The consistent theme in its reviews, a sales process reviewers describe as pressure-free, is a real point in its favor in a trade where upselling is a common complaint.

About Custom Air Conditioning and Heating Co.
Custom Air Conditioning and Heating Co. was founded in 1976 by Ed and Peg Wuelfing and has worked out of Claycraft Road on Columbus's east side ever since, holding Ohio HVAC license #26912 and a 4.9 rating from 1,113 Google reviews, read September 22, 2026. What sets this company apart from a lot of Columbus HVAC shops is its brand range: it's a dealer for American Standard, Tempstar, Mitsubishi Electric, RHEEM and WaterFurnace geothermal systems, so a homeowner isn't locked into whichever single manufacturer the company happens to push.
That geothermal dealer status is worth calling out specifically. Geothermal heat pumps are a bigger install and a bigger upfront cost than a standard furnace and AC swap, and not every HVAC company in central Ohio carries a geothermal line at all, so it's a real point of difference for anyone weighing that option against a conventional system.
Reviewers consistently describe a low-pressure sales process, with one customer specifically calling out the sales consultant, Scott Haring, for being "genuinely honest" without pushing an upsell, and crediting the installation crew for following every step of the job carefully. Another review described a same-day ductwork repair completed by name-checked technicians who cleaned up thoroughly afterward.
The company's services cover the standard Columbus HVAC call list: AC and furnace repair and installation, ductless mini-splits, heat pumps, geothermal systems, indoor air quality equipment, controls and thermostats, and water heaters, with instant online system estimates and financing available for larger installs. Its stated service area covers Columbus, Dublin and Delaware.
Custom Air's website doesn't publish current owner or team names, a warranty summary, or an explicit 24/7 emergency line beyond a separate emergency contact number; those are worth confirming directly with the company.
Custom Air Conditioning and Heating Co. suits a Columbus homeowner who wants a multi-brand, family-founded dealer with nearly 50 years of local history, especially anyone considering a geothermal or ductless system rather than a standard furnace and AC replacement. Before booking, ask for the license number to be confirmed on-site, get warranty terms for your specific brand and system in writing, and confirm current emergency service hours directly.
