About Vigilante Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning
Vigilante Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning has been working on Brooklyn homes since 1927, which means it was fixing brownstone boilers before most of the current housing stock had central heat of any modern kind. The company is based on Douglass Street between Park Slope and Gowanus, and its website lists service across Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island.
Vigilante started as a plumber and still does a great deal of plumbing, from drains and sewer lines to kitchen and bathroom work, water heaters and Halo water filtration. On the heating and cooling side it handles boilers, furnaces, HVAC systems and central air, including repair, replacement, tune-ups and emergency calls. For an old Brooklyn house, where the boiler, the hot water and the gas piping all run together in the cellar, having one company that understands the whole system is a real advantage.
With 2,145 Google reviews, it is by far the most reviewed company on this list, and the rating still holds at 4.8. The reviews are consistent. One customer called and had a technician at the door in under 30 minutes to sort out a water heater gas control problem. A real estate professional who sends Vigilante to clients praised a technician named Antonio. Another reviewer admits the company can be on the pricier side but says the price has been worth it every time, from the call center to the sales team to the person doing the work. Akram, Raphael and Aidan are also named.
The website advertises upfront flat-rate pricing with no overtime charges, 24/7 emergency service, financing and service partner agreements for regular maintenance. The Google profile lists office hours of 8 AM to 5 PM on weekdays. Free estimates are not advertised, and license numbers are not listed on the pages we reviewed, so ask about both.
Who it suits: brownstone and row house owners who want one company for boilers, heating, cooling and plumbing, and anyone who values nearly a century of history and a huge base of reviews. Who it suits less well: budget-focused customers looking for the lowest possible quote.
Before booking, ask for the flat-rate price in writing, confirm the master plumber or other license that applies to gas work, and ask what the service partner plan includes.
