Editorial Review

Our Take on Good Choice Contracting

Good Choice pairs a designer with a trades team in one Queen Street East office, and its reviews lean on whole-condo and whole-house jobs. It is a sensible first call in the east end, as long as the insurance, warranty and permit details are put in writing.

Best forCondo and house renovations with an in-house designer

I hired Good Choice Contracting for a full kitchen renovation. Sunny, the designer, was responsive, attentive, and helpful throughout the design phase. Beyond design, working with Ajay has been unpleasant.<br><br>- Timelines: we were initially quoted 5 to 6 weeks. The project dragged on for 14 weeks. There were long stretches where no work was done<br>- Communication: Ajay was extremely difficult to reach, ignoring phone calls and relying on text messages and avoiding conversations<br>- Incomplete Demolition: our contract specified a full tear-down. This was never completed; large sections of wall and the entire ceiling were left intact under the excuse that it would save money while not adjusting the final cost<br>- Botched Exterior Work: new siding was installed without proper sealing, insulation, or vapour barrier. Removing the siding exposed visible water infiltration. I've since had to hire a reputable exterior contractor to tear out and fix Good Choice's work (additional $2000)<br>- Cabinet Hardware: Despite using a jig, the majority of our cabinet hardware was mounted crooked. It likely would have stayed that way if I hadn't pointed it out<br>- Basement Transition: The transition to our basement stairs was butchered, the carpet was lazily cut with a utility knife and stapled back down<br>- Missing Scope: the proposal contract included a patio door replacement, which was included into the pricing. On the final signed contract the scope for the door was removed, but the total price was never adjusted down<br>- Markups: we were charged over $600 for a sink that arrived in an Amazon box with a listing price of $300<br>- Forced Escalation: They only bothered to "finish" the siding after I had to send a formal written complaint threatening small claims court and informing them I'd be hiring a third party to complete it at their expense<br>- Accounting: despite claiming I would receive a finalized and corrected invoice I was never provided one. I had to deduct I the missing door and the sink markup before final payment. Contracts are also non-standard and attempt to include clauses such as showcasing their work for marketing in order to obtain a warranty<br><br>While some of Ajay's subcontractors were good, any work completed directly by Ajay or his immediate crew was inadequate and poor.

Negative 10 stars. Good choice? maybe worst choice would capture their work and work ethic. The work that was done did not meet code. They left with about 1/4 of the job done. Over the next couple of months they kept saying they were returning and after 7 no shows we gave up. They dont complete the work, they dont know what they are doing, not aware of building codes, and left the property damaged. Don't pick them ever.

We had the good fortune of using Good Choice Contracting as suggested by our designer, Sunny Fong, from Chinese Work Ethic. The experience of our whole-condo renovation was excellent, from design work to final execution. The trades that came were of high quality, respectful of the neighbors and limitations of doing construction in a high rise condo. We loved the attention to detail and high quality craftsmanship throughout, and the work really brought to life the fabulous design choices Sunny brought to the table. They were courteous with the neighbors, great with communication and fun to work with.<br><br>Feel free to reach out to me directly if you'd like more info or have questions, I'm happy to recommend them and would use them again without question. I don't have a bad thing to say about the experience and the work speaks for itself.

Company Background

About Good Choice Contracting

Good Choice Contracting sits in a storefront design centre at 2359 Queen Street East, a short walk from the Beaches, and builds out of that address for homeowners and condo owners across Toronto. The company's own site calls it a full-service renovation, custom home and design firm. For bathrooms it describes a designer, project manager, plumber, tile setter and electrician working together, and its service list runs from kitchens, basements and additions to permits and drawings, demolition and commercial fit-outs.

The reviews give a clearer picture of the work. One homeowner had a wall removed, a new kitchen layout and hardwood laid across the whole main floor. A condo owner called the trades high quality and respectful of the neighbours during a whole-condo renovation, and said the company was suggested by their designer. Another client had the exterior walls opened up and re-insulated, the attic re-insulated and the main floor interior walls removed. Reviewers name Ajay as the person they dealt with and Sunny as the in-house designer and project manager, and the praise is consistent across kitchen, bathroom and whole-house jobs.

Good Choice shows 4.8 from 67 Google reviews, read October 31, 2026. The site does not give a founding year, a licence number or the length of its warranty, and it lists commercial work, repairs and backyard projects alongside home renovation, so the range is wide. The office is open Tuesday to Saturday and closed on Monday and Sunday.

It suits homeowners and condo owners who want design help and construction from one office, particularly in the east end. It suits less well anyone who wants a narrow specialist or a Monday site visit. Before booking, ask for a written quote and scope, the warranty terms, proof of insurance and bonding, a WSIB clearance certificate, and who pulls the City of Toronto building permit. Ontario has no provincial licence for renovation contractors, so those checks are yours to run.

Good Choice Contracting FAQs

  • Is Good Choice Contracting licensed in Toronto?

Its site says the company is fully insured and bonded but does not publish a licence number. Ontario has no provincial licence for renovation contractors, so ask for a WSIB clearance certificate, proof of liability insurance and the permit plan, and check with the City of Toronto whether a licence applies to your project.

  • What are Good Choice Contracting's hours?

The Queen Street East design centre is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM and closed Monday and Sunday, according to its Google listing. Its site lists home repair services but no 24 hour emergency line, so call (416) 562-5986 during opening hours.

  • Does Good Choice Contracting offer free quotes and a warranty?

It offers a free consultation and says it will reply within 24 hours. The site does not state warranty terms or financing, so ask for the warranty in writing. The company is based in Toronto and says it serves clients across Ontario.

  • Is Good Choice Contracting licensed and insured?

We checked 0 of 1 credentials against the issuing authority. Verified items carry the date we checked; reported items are what the business told us and we could not independently confirm.

  • What areas does Good Choice Contracting serve?

Toronto. Coverage is as the business describes it, cross-checked against where its recent documented work is. Confirm your address before scheduling, particularly at the edge of a service area.

  • Does Good Choice Contracting offer emergency service?

Emergency availability is not listed for this company. If you need an urgent call-out, check the ranking for companies that do list it.

  • What warranty do they offer?

Warranty terms are not on file. Ask for them in writing before work starts.

  • How was this profile built?

Credentials come from issuing authorities, ratings from the company's Google Business Profile with the date we read them, and the editorial take from our own review of estimates, warranty documents and public feedback. Anything the business told us is labelled as reported.

  • Can a business pay to improve its profile?

A business can subscribe to manage its own listing details, and it can buy a labelled sponsored placement. Neither changes a ranking position or the editorial assessment on this page.
