  • Stacey Tremmel4.0Very impressed with the quick response from Jesse. We had to replace pur toilet and decided to replace the bathroom sink as well. Since we just got it painted. The only thing the new toilet was a different make so the back wall needs a touch up of paint. No worries it's not a big job and we still have leftover paint. We had a leaking drain in the kitchen which he repaired with new plumbing. We also said we wanted new plumbing in the laundry room which today he came by to do it. We mentioned to Jesse today that our kitchen sink where he fixed the pipe that the water was coming up when draining. He mentioned that he did see some grease built-up in the drain and he cleaned the best he could. He actually then recommended that he use a drain snake to clear the drains before he left today. Very pleased with Jesse's work. He explained things as to let us know what he was doing. Highly recommend Plumbwize for any plumbing needs.August 2026Google
  • Shawn McKenzie3.0I had a leak in my basement originating from an upstairs bathroom. Plumbwize was quick to set up an appointment, and Jesse the technician was knowledgable and polite. After a first visit to assess the problem, Jesse returned to cut open the main floor wall and replace a cast iron pipe. After 3 hours he said he had to leave and finish the job another day. He indicated it was a $1200 job and based on an hourly rate it would cost us $500 for the 3-hour visit, with his return visit to finish the job estimated at $700. He returned after the weekend to finish the job in 2.5 hours, at which point we were billed an additional $1200 plus tax, for a total cost of ~$2000. I spoke to Jason on the phone who conveyed that the book price of the job was $1200, and that the initial 3 hour visit (removal of wall) was an extra hourly charge unrelated to the book price. For purposes of transparency I asked him what the hourly rate was, and how customers are to know whether they're paying by the hour or the job. He said they don't have/disclose hourly rates, and that every job is different. Aware that we felt very mislead and overcharged he asked me what I thought was fair, and so in the moment I agreed to meet halfway on the difference between the $1200 quote and the ~$2000 final price (a refund of $300). Though I appreciate Jason's willingness to discuss options, unfortunately I regret not being more firm on receiving a full refund beyond of what we overpaid beyond the quoted amount from the technician. The customer service process could have been much worse, but it also forces the customer to proactively call and haggle, which few very people are willing to do given the uncomfortable nature of these conversations and the lack of transparency. Overall I recommend you be cautious with Plumbwize and make sure you ask clearly in advance from a manager what the costs are and how they breakdown (hourly or by job, or some unknown combination). I would use again if there were no other available options, being mindful to get a cost update after every hour of work. *****Update after reading the Response from Owner***** I respectfully disagree with a few key points here: 1. I was never formally quoted anything in writing, so this makes it a he-said she-said regarding what actually happened. We were told in person by the technician that it would be a total of $1200, and unfortunately without any transparency about rates or any details on the work orders/quotes this is just impossible to verify. My only option would have been to record our conversations. 2. I do not know the size of a standard contractor bag but I've attached photos to argue that this missing section of wall would fit in far fewer than 5 contractor sized bags. 3. I cannot, of course, verify what occurred after the contractors left my house, but if the clean up and dump of this size of a job takes 5.5 hours I have to legitimately question the efficiency of the workers.October 2025Google

About PlumbWize

PlumbWize is a brother-owned plumbing company with its Hamilton office at 46 Jackson Street East, downtown. Google shows 129 reviews at a 4.8 average, read September 24, 2026, and lists the office as open 24 hours.

The website says Jason and Zach have run the business for more than 20 years and that every job is done by a licensed, insured plumber. It also has offices in Burlington, Oakville and Milton, and the Hamilton number covers Ancaster, Stoney Creek and Waterdown. PlumbWize answers 24/7, weekends and holidays included, agrees on the price before work starts, and says its plumbers take their shoes off and cover the floors.

The service list is broad. On the plumbing side there are repairs, leak detection, Kitec pipe replacement, tubs, showers, toilets, faucets, sinks, washing machines, dishwashers, garburators, sump pump service, rough-ins and renovations. Kitec is a plastic and aluminum water pipe that some insurers flag, and PlumbWize offers preventative replacement before it fails. On the drain side there are professional drain cleaning, camera inspection, hydro jetting, sewer backup response, drain repair and pipe replacement, frozen and burst pipes, rooter service and tree root damage. Commercial drain cleaning is offered too.

Most reviewers name Jesse. Suhayb said Jesse was patient and knowledgeable across several visits for an overflowing sink, a shower drain and a kitchen sink. Stacey gave four stars after Jesse replaced a toilet and sink and repaired a kitchen drain, while noting a follow-up issue with water coming up in that sink. Devyn praised Chris T. for clearing a clogged pipe quickly, and Ivan, who found them by word of mouth, called the pricing reasonable. Shawn gave three stars after a cast iron pipe replacement stretched over two visits and was billed by the hour.

The website does not publish warranty terms or an email address.

PlumbWize suits an owner of an older downtown or lower-city home dealing with leaks, cast iron drains or Kitec lines. It suits less well someone who wants a firm fixed price on a large open-wall job. Get the price in writing, confirm how extra hours are billed, check the plumber's Ontario certificate of qualification, and ask who pulls the City of Hamilton permit.
