Editorial Review

Our Take on Sure Locks

Sure Locks is a long-running Avenue Road showroom that earns its 5.0 on key cutting, rekeying and hard-to-find hardware rather than on emergency call-outs. Reviewers keep coming back to unusual keys that other shops would not copy. Plan on a weekday daytime visit.

Company Background

About Sure Locks

Sure Locks Inc. has sold lock and door hardware from the same Toronto showroom at 1045 Avenue Road, just north of Eglinton, and its website says it has been a complete lock and door hardware supplier since 1981. That is a shop you can walk into, with a counter, shelves of hardware and a key machine, rather than a dispatch line. It cuts keys, including keys by code and the novelty shapes customers mention, rekeys cylinders, repairs locks, and supplies deadbolts, knob and grip sets, hinges, door closers, panic bars, keyed-alike padlocks and keyless entry. It also installs computerized master key systems and sells safes, custom address plates and window bars. Mobile service is available when the job cannot come to the shop, and estimates carry no obligation.

The brand list on the site is strong for a neighbourhood shop: Schlage, Medeco, Sargent, Assa, Emtek, Allegion, Abus, Kaba Ilco, Primus, Inkas and Lucky Line, with AMSEC and Uscan among the safe makers. The site states that its technicians are fully bonded and insured.

Reviews fit that picture. Customers describe copies of very old or unusual keys that hardware stores could not cut, key copies made in about ten minutes at half the price of a shoe repair shop, and a technician named Dave who talked one customer through the options before a lock change. Sure Locks has 5.0 from 77 Google reviews, read 2026-10-28. The review count is modest and several of the reviews are from 2022 and 2023, so recent volume is lower than the big call-out outfits.

It suits homeowners, landlords and small businesses in midtown Toronto who want rekeying, high security hardware or a key that needs a specialist. It suits less well anyone locked out at night or on a weekend, because the shop is open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm, and the site does not advertise emergency service or car key programming. Before booking, ask for a written quote or service call fee, ask a mobile technician to show ID and arrive in a marked vehicle, confirm whether a lockout can be opened without drilling, and ask about warranty on parts and labour. Ontario has no provincial locksmith licence, so ask for the business registration, proof of insurance and a written quote, and look the company up in the Ontario Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery business name search.

Sure Locks FAQs

  • Is Sure Locks in Toronto licensed and insured?

Sure Locks says its technicians are fully bonded and insured, but Ontario has no provincial locksmith licence, so there is no licence number to look up. Ask for the business registration, proof of insurance and a written quote before work starts, and check the company in the Ontario Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery business name search. Sure Locks Inc. has operated its Avenue Road showroom since 1981 according to its website.

  • What are Sure Locks' hours, and do they do emergency lockouts?

The Avenue Road showroom is open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm, and closed Saturday and Sunday. The company does not advertise emergency or after-hours lockout service, so call 416-486-5077 during the day to ask whether mobile service can reach you. For a night or weekend lockout, plan on another company.

  • Does Sure Locks offer free estimates and mobile service in Toronto?

Yes to both. The website says Sure Locks gives no-obligation estimates and offers mobile service for residential and commercial properties in Toronto and surrounding communities. It does not publish a warranty term or financing, so ask for warranty on parts and labour in writing before booking.

  • Is Sure Locks licensed and insured?

We checked 0 of 1 credentials against the issuing authority. Verified items carry the date we checked; reported items are what the business told us and we could not independently confirm.

  • What areas does Sure Locks serve?

Toronto. Coverage is as the business describes it, cross-checked against where its recent documented work is. Confirm your address before scheduling, particularly at the edge of a service area.

  • Does Sure Locks offer emergency service?

Emergency availability is not listed for this company. If you need an urgent call-out, check the ranking for companies that do list it.

  • What warranty do they offer?

Warranty terms are not on file. Ask for them in writing before work starts.

  • How was this profile built?

Credentials come from issuing authorities, ratings from the company's Google Business Profile with the date we read them, and the editorial take from our own review of estimates, warranty documents and public feedback. Anything the business told us is labelled as reported.

  • Can a business pay to improve its profile?

A business can subscribe to manage its own listing details, and it can buy a labelled sponsored placement. Neither changes a ranking position or the editorial assessment on this page.
