- Vidya Kamath2.0Called the office about a pilot light turned off in my water tank heater. I had called the office requesting specifically for a particular technician and made & confirmed for a particular time. When asked, the cost was $120 for the hour and $60 for the next 1/2 hour. I was sure the problem was easily fixable in less than 1 hour. No mention of travel time was ever told to me. I received a call from office that another technician was on the way. I was told he was in my driveway, however he arrived 10 mins after . I took the time to explain the pilot light was not on and what we had done to fix it. So he knew exactly what was done and that the problem was not a serious one. I left him alone to do his job for 15 mins in the furnace room. (It was a simple task except we had not held the button for a minute or so. ) When I went down to see how things were going, he said he said nothing was wrong but he still cleaned the area of coupling(?) just in case. At this point since he still had a lot of time remaining from the hour service, I decided to learn exactly how to fix it in case it happened again . The tech spent 10-15 mins teaching me. We came outside to by credit card and he charged me $231.65 I was stunned. I fully expected for the 1 hour service. He said he had charged me 15 mins of travel time ( there was some discussion around that - I wasn’t told of it etc and it being unfair etc) and that he spent 1:30 hours at the job. I was very disappointed, I discussed with some homeowners in the neighbourhood and other people who are in the industry (?) and they all said that it was unfair practice and excessive . 1. Another technician was sent when I had specifically requested another - I had left with no choice when told that another was on his way and then soon after on my driveway . 2. A simple turn on of pilot light and educating me on “how to” took 1.5 hours by an expert technician - when nothing else was wrong. A voluntary clean up was done as he was there as an extra service . 3. I was told 1 hour call to be $120 and extra 1/2 hour $60. I was not told about travel time cost etc. I was charged 20 mins as per the office when I called them. I definitely feel I was fleeced for a simple routine task - when nothing else was really wrong. Extra time 1/2 hour ( unnecessary) and travel time ( not informed before) I did speak to the office and discussed with them about my concerns. I should be charged only for the hour of service and nothing moreSeptember 2026Google

The final bill matched the initial estimate with no hidden surprises.
