Editorial Review
Our Take on Ottawa Key Shop
Ottawa Key Shop is one of the few Hamilton locksmiths with a long-running storefront, a showroom and three service vehicles behind the phone number. Reviewers describe honest pricing, careful diagnosis and a willingness to take on old hardware. Weekday shop hours are short, so after-hours calls depend on its emergency line.

Company Background
About Ottawa Key Shop
Ottawa Key Shop has served Hamilton since 1939, and the company says the same family has run it since 1972. The shop sits at 82 Ottawa Street North in Crown Point West, diagonally across from the first Tim Hortons, with a showroom for walk-in key cutting and hardware questions. Parking out front is on the street at meters, as one customer noted.
The work splits between homes and businesses. For homeowners that means lockouts, replacing locks after lost keys or a new tenancy, deadbolts, weatherproof keyless entry, and keys and remotes for most cars and trucks. For businesses it includes master key systems, high-security locks, card, biometric and keypad access, panic bars, automatic door openers, safes and lockout tagout systems. The site shows Dormakaba and Master Lock among the brands it works with. It also says it has outfitted schools, hospitals, offices and condominiums.
Reviews give the work some texture. Bill replaced a broken mortise lock on an old door, explained the fault and cleaned up afterward. Nathan restored a storefront entrance within the hour by replacing a handle and a mag lock, and later opened a front door for a homeowner whose lock cylinder had come out. Ron is praised as a locksmith one customer trusts with all her locks. Another reviewer had an old BMW key copied that other shops could not get to work. One honest note: a lockout customer was told no one was free right away and waited for a later visit.
Ottawa Key Shop reads 4.5 from 87 Google reviews, read 2026-10-28. It serves Hamilton, Burlington, Grimsby, Ancaster and Dundas, and runs three service vehicles. The shop is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and advertises 24/7 emergency service, which it also describes for commercial and property management accounts.
It suits homeowners and building managers who want a known local shop, and businesses that need master keying or access hardware. It suits less well anyone who wants guaranteed instant weekend dispatch or a published price list. Before booking, ask for a written quote or service-call fee up front, ask the technician for ID and to arrive in a marked vehicle, confirm the lockout will be opened without drilling when possible, ask what warranty covers parts and labour, and confirm how after-hours calls are handled. The site lists no provincial licence number, so ask for proof of insurance as well.
