Editorial Review

Our Take on Aegis Locksmiths

Aegis Locksmiths is the pick for people who want to walk into a real shop and still have a van available at 2 am. The 4.6 rating across 250 Google reviews and more than four decades in business back that up, though one reviewer felt a special-order request got brushed off.

Don’t shop at this store. The owner owns a property in the neighbourhood that he has abandoned and it has become a safety hazard. Please don’t give money to someone causing unneeded stress to the neighbourhood.

I took a job to Aegis Locksmiths based on the already glowing reviews, and I wasn’t disappointed. Glenn and the other staff were very helpful, professional and persistent when it came to solving the issue, and didn’t give up on the hard and complicated job. The issue was resolved and I am still blown away by their exceptional service.

Company Background

About Aegis Locksmiths

Aegis Locksmiths operates from 7020 82 Avenue NW, a commercial address in the Idylwylde and Kenilworth part of southeast Edmonton, and that shop is the main reason it stands out. Most locksmith listings in a big city are phone numbers with a van behind them. This one has a counter, a key-cutting bench and shelves of safes, padlocks and door hardware that you can visit between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm on weekdays, plus a mobile service that the company says runs 24 hours a day.

The business has been serving Edmonton since 1981 as a division of Aegis Lockworks Ltd. Its website says five journeyman locksmiths are on staff, that it has been a Better Business Bureau member for 25 years, and that it holds a Government of Alberta licence and belongs to the Professional Locksmiths Association of Alberta. No licence number is published on the site.

The service list covers house, car, office and safe lockouts, key cutting and replacement, break-in repairs with rekeying and lock replacement, card access and key fob systems, and smart home locks. The shop says it buys key blanks directly from manufacturers, which helps with older skeleton keys and transponder keys. Brands named on the site include Weiser, Schlage, Medeco, Kaba Ilco, Sargent, Corbin Russwin, Von Duprin, Adams Rite, Master Lock, American Lock and ABUS.

Reviews back up the hands-on reputation. Aegis Locksmiths holds 4.6 from 250 Google reviews, read 2026-10-28. A customer praised Glenn and the team for refusing to give up on a hard job, and another said Dok arrived promptly after a key snapped in the lock and cut a replacement on the spot. A driver with a 1991 Geo Metro credited the shop with finding several ways to copy a broken key. The honest negative is a 1-star review from a long-time customer who said the shop would not order an easily available part.

Aegis Locksmiths suits homeowners, landlords and small businesses in Edmonton who want an established shop, key cutting on site and an after-hours option. It suits less well anyone who needs a Saturday visit to the counter, since the shop is closed on weekends, or a buyer who expects special-order parts without a conversation first.

Before booking any locksmith in Edmonton, ask for a firm quote or service-call fee, whether the technician carries photo ID and arrives in a marked vehicle, whether the lockout method is non-destructive, and what warranty covers parts and labour. Alberta does not issue one provincial licence to every locksmith, so also ask to see the City of Edmonton business licence and proof of insurance.

  • Is Aegis Locksmiths licensed in Edmonton?

Aegis Locksmiths says it is licensed by the Government of Alberta and belongs to the Professional Locksmiths Association of Alberta. Its website also lists Better Business Bureau membership for 25 years and five journeyman locksmiths on staff. No licence number is published, and Alberta does not issue one provincial locksmith licence to every operator, so ask for the City of Edmonton business licence, proof of insurance and a firm quote before work starts.

  • Does Aegis Locksmiths offer 24-hour emergency lockout service in Edmonton?

Yes, the company advertises a 24-hour mobile emergency service for house, car, office and safe lockouts, reached at 780-465-0182. Ask about the service-call fee and whether the entry method avoids damaging the lock when you phone.

  • What areas and services does Aegis Locksmiths cover?

Aegis Locksmiths serves Edmonton and the surrounding area from its 82 Avenue shop, and has done so since 1981. It also sells safes, padlocks, door closers and high-security locks such as Medeco. The site does not publish warranty terms or financing, so ask for those in writing.

  • Is Aegis Locksmiths licensed and insured?

We checked 0 of 3 credentials against the issuing authority. Verified items carry the date we checked; reported items are what the business told us and we could not independently confirm.

  • Does Aegis Locksmiths offer emergency service?

  • What warranty do they offer?

Warranty terms are not on file. Ask for them in writing before work starts.

  • How was this profile built?

Credentials come from issuing authorities, ratings from the company's Google Business Profile with the date we read them, and the editorial take from our own review of estimates, warranty documents and public feedback. Anything the business told us is labelled as reported.

  • Can a business pay to improve its profile?

A business can subscribe to manage its own listing details, and it can buy a labelled sponsored placement. Neither changes a ranking position or the editorial assessment on this page.
