Joshua is a general contractor first, with drafting and engineered permit drawings in the same office and the biggest review base on this list. Its public material is more commercial than residential, so ask for home references before you commit.

5 Stars for Exceptional Problem-Solving & Quality Work!

All five ceiling lights in our basement laundry room stopped working. I consulted with both xAI’s Grok and Google’s Gemini multiple times to troubleshoot the issue. However, since I couldn't remove the recessed can lights or see the wiring inside the ceiling, I couldn't figure out what was wrong.

I then hired a professional electrician. Although he was able to remove the lights, he still couldn't trace the circuit hidden behind the ceiling and was unable to pinpoint the fault. He suggested replacing our drywall ceiling with suspended ceiling tiles so the wiring could be inspected. However, the circuit doesn't run exclusively through the laundry room ceiling, meaning the problem might lie elsewhere—and replacing the ceiling would have cost several thousand Canadian dollars.

When the technician from Joshua General Contracting Inc. arrived, he checked and found that the wall outlet in the laundry room had power. He came up with a brilliant, creative solution: replace all five lights with new ceiling fixtures and power them directly from the active wall outlet circuit. The new lights are stunningly bright, and the updated wiring setup will be very easy to maintain in the future. We are thoroughly impressed with their creative problem-solving and outstanding work!

Company Background

About Joshua General Contracting Inc.

Joshua General Contracting has been working in Calgary since 2015, according to its website, and describes itself as a family-owned company serving Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere and surrounding communities. The office is at 3132 26 Street NE, and the phone number on the site matches Google.

What distinguishes it from most renovators here is the front end. The company offers design and drafting in-house, including architectural layouts, mechanical and electrical design, 3D renderings and permit drawings with an engineer's stamp. The construction side covers demolition, framing, drywall, painting, plumbing and gas fittings, electrical and finishing. Its residential list includes basement development, bathroom remodeling, kitchen remodeling, windows and doors, flooring, tile, siding and custom closets. A separate handyman and maintenance service handles smaller jobs such as decks, fences and garages, and the commercial list includes retail and secure storage fit-outs.

The credentials it lists are an A+ BBB rating, a Certificate of Recognition showing its health and safety management system meets Alberta occupational health and safety standards, and a statement that it is fully licensed, insured and WCB-covered. It also cites Canadian Choice Awards for 2024 through 2026. These are the company's statements, so ask for the certificates.

Google shows 4.9 stars from 387 reviews, read October 30, 2026, which is the largest review base on this list. Hours on Google are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. At the time of writing, our Google review pull had not returned individual reviews, so we could not read them.

The caution is fit. Photos on Google show large commercial interiors, a truck-and-trailer fleet and a storefront alongside a residential deck, and the website does not publish named residential projects, so ask for home references similar to yours.

Joshua suits owners who need drawings, engineering and permits as part of a basement, bathroom or kitchen project, or who want a contractor that also does smaller maintenance work. It suits less well anyone seeking a boutique design-build studio.

Before booking, ask for residential references, the written scope and permit plan, the WCB clearance letter and liability certificate, and the City of Calgary business licence, which the City's Licensed Trade Contractor tool can confirm.
