10 Best Home Remodeling Contractors in Calgary, AB (2026)
TenBestFind ranks 10 remodeling contractors in Calgary, AB. Each company had to be operating, rated 4.5 or higher from at least 50 Google reviews, and show a Calgary street address, a working website, a logo and real project photos. The list was last reviewed on October 30, 2026.
Versatile Renovations, Reborn Renovations and Solid Solutions Renovations lead our Calgary home remodeling list, three companies rated 4.8 or higher on Google, with Ultimate Renovations adding design-build depth that dates to 1979. All ten have a Calgary street address, a working website, a rating of 4.7 or better from at least 57 Google reviews, and photos of finished kitchens, bathrooms, basements or additions. Joshua General Contracting has the most reviews at 387, while Kay2 Contracting and Ultimate focus on larger design-build jobs.
Calgary keeps remodelers busy. Established communities such as Mayland Heights and Willow Park have older kitchens and basements to rebuild, newer suburbs such as Mahogany and Auburn Bay call for finishing and additions, and hail and chinook swings push exterior work. Basement development for secondary suites is a steady request. No single licence covers every renovation, so the checks add up. A contractor needs a City of Calgary business licence, which you can look up with the City's Licensed Trade Contractor tool, and without it the contractor cannot pull construction or trade permits. Gas, electrical and plumbing work must be done under the right trade qualification. A contractor that asks for a deposit or progress payments before the work is done also needs a Government of Alberta prepaid contractor licence. Ask for WCB clearance and an insurance certificate, and settle in the contract who pulls the permits. The provincial builder licence and new home warranty rules cover new homes, so on a renovation your protection is the contract and the contractor's own warranty.

Methodology
How we chose the best remodeling contractors in Calgary
We read Google Maps results for "home remodeling contractor in Calgary, AB" and "renovation company Calgary" on October 30, 2026. Each company had to be operating, rated 4.5 or higher from at least 50 Google reviews, and show a Calgary street address, a working website, a logo and real project photos. We rejected home addresses and PO boxes, firms with too few reviews or lower ratings, and exterior-only or single-trade companies. The order follows Google's results, with Joshua General Contracting placed by its position in our second search. Paramount Home Renovations lists a suite address, so call ahead. Where a website did not state a licence or insurance number we say so. No company paid for a place. Ratings and review counts were read on October 30, 2026.
How do I check a Calgary renovation contractor's licence?
Search the contractor in the City of Calgary's Licensed Trade Contractor tool, since the City says contractors must hold a valid business licence to get construction and trade permits. Ask for WCB clearance and an insurance certificate. If the contractor wants a deposit or progress payments before work is done, ask for a Government of Alberta prepaid contractor licence too, and put permit responsibility in the written contract.
How much does a home renovation cost in Calgary?
It depends on scope, finishes and the age of the house, and none of the ten companies here publishes a full price list. Ask for a written itemized quote that separates labour, materials, permits and allowances, and compare at least two quotes for the same scope. Firms such as Kay2 Contracting and Solid Solutions Renovations say they price a project before construction starts.
Do I need a permit to renovate my basement in Calgary?
Usually yes. The City of Calgary requires a building permit for construction work such as adding or removing walls, and trade permits for electrical, plumbing, gas and mechanical work. Secondary suites have their own rules. Ask your contractor in writing who applies for each permit, then check the permit status with the City before the work is closed up.
Priya writes the remodeling, moving and cost guides. She spends most of her time reading contracts and estimates, which is where the differences between two apparently identical quotes usually turn up.
