How we chose the best roofing companies in Calgary

We searched Google Maps on October 5, 2026 for roofing contractors in Calgary, kept only operational companies rated 4.5 or higher with at least 50 reviews, and removed any with a virtual office or shared mailbox address, a template or lead generation website, an address outside the city, or a website that did not match Google. The remaining companies are listed in the order Google showed them. We read each company's own website for licences, warranties, brands and staff, and we state plainly when a company publishes none. No company paid to be listed or to change its position. Ratings and review counts were read on October 5, 2026.

How to choose a roofing company in Calgary

  1. Verify insurance and credentials

    Ask for a current certificate of insurance and confirm registration or licensing with the authority that issues it, not with the company.

  2. Ask for a written estimate

    Scope, materials, removal, disposal and who pulls the permit should all be named on the page rather than agreed on the doorstep.

  3. Compare multiple quotes

    Two or three bids on the same scope. A number far below the others usually means something has been left out of it.

  4. Understand the warranty

    Separate the manufacturer's warranty on materials from the company's own warranty on the work, and get both in writing.

  5. Ask who performs the work

    Find out whether the crew are employees or subcontractors, and who supervises them on the day.

  6. Check recent local projects

    Ask for addresses or photographs of comparable jobs finished nearby in the last year or two.

  7. Avoid high-pressure sales

    A discount that expires today, or a knock on the door after a storm, is a reason to slow down rather than sign.

  8. Get everything in writing

    Change orders, timeline and payment schedule included, before the first payment changes hands.

Alberta does not issue a provincial roofing licence, so check the basics yourself. Ask the company for its City of Calgary business licence number, a current Workers Compensation Board of Alberta clearance letter, and proof of liability insurance before you sign. Several companies on this list say they carry WCB coverage and liability insurance, but few print the numbers on their sites, so ask for the documents.

How much does a roof replacement cost in Calgary?

Cost depends on roof size, pitch, the number of layers to remove and the shingle grade, so none of the companies here publishes a flat price. Get at least three written estimates for the same scope and compare what is included, such as underlay, ventilation, disposal and the workmanship warranty length. Will my insurance pay for hail damage to my Calgary roof?

Often yes, if your policy covers hail and the damage is documented, but coverage depends on your policy and deductible.
