Our top 10 hvac companies in Victoria

Heat pumps now lead the heating and cooling market in Greater Victoria. The region has the mildest winters in Canada, which suits heat pumps well, and a lot of older houses in neighbourhoods like Fairfield, James Bay, Oak Bay and Saanich still run on oil furnaces or electric baseboards that homeowners want to replace. Summers have also been getting warmer, so many households now want cooling too, and a heat pump gives them both. Rebates play a large part in the decision. BC Hydro, FortisBC and the Capital Regional District have all offered incentives for switching to heat pumps, including top-ups for homes moving off oil. The programs and amounts change, and at least one reviewer on this list lost a rebate they expected, so ask your installer to confirm in writing which rebate your job qualifies for before you sign. In British Columbia, gas work is regulated by Technical Safety BC. A company working on a gas furnace, fireplace, boiler or gas line needs a gas contractor licence, and you can check the number with Technical Safety BC. Three companies on this list publish their licence numbers online. For heat pumps, ask who on the crew holds the refrigeration certification, and whether the company is registered with the Heat Pump Contractor Network if a rebate depends on it.

How we chose the best hvac companies in Victoria

Read our full ranking methodology →

This list follows Google's order. We searched Google Maps for HVAC contractors in Victoria, BC on September 24, 2026 and kept companies in the order Google returned them. We removed any that did not meet our basic bar: at least 4.5 stars, at least 50 reviews, currently operating, a real website, and a Victoria mailing address. Greater Victoria's municipalities share the Victoria mailing address, so several companies here are in Saanich, Victoria West or the West Shore. Where a company's website lists its offices, we checked that the Victoria address was among them, and we left out one company whose Victoria listing was an office suite while its website lists only an office in Sooke. We also left out companies with no public address. We then read each company's reviews and website to write the profiles. No company paid to be included or to change its position.

How to choose a hvac company in Victoria

  • Verify insurance and credentials

Ask for a current certificate of insurance and confirm registration or licensing with the authority that issues it, not with the company.

  • Ask for a written estimate

Scope, materials, removal, disposal and who pulls the permit should all be named on the page rather than agreed on the doorstep.

  • Compare multiple quotes

Two or three bids on the same scope. A number far below the others usually means something has been left out of it.

  • Understand the warranty

Separate the manufacturer's warranty on materials from the company's own warranty on the work, and get both in writing.

  • Ask who performs the work

Find out whether the crew are employees or subcontractors, and who supervises them on the day.

  • Check recent local projects

Ask for addresses or photographs of comparable jobs finished nearby in the last year or two.

  • Avoid high-pressure sales

A discount that expires today, or a knock on the door after a storm, is a reason to slow down rather than sign.

  • Get everything in writing

Change orders, timeline and payment schedule included, before the first payment changes hands.

Questions to ask before hiring

  • Are you insured, and can you send the certificate?
  • How long have you worked in this area?
  • Will you provide a written estimate with materials listed?
  • What warranty do you offer on the work itself?
  • Do you use subcontractors for this job?
  • Who handles permits and inspection?
  • What would you recommend here, and why?
  • How are unexpected costs handled once work starts?
  • What is the estimated timeline from start to finish?
  • Can you provide recent local references?

Red flags

  • No verifiable local business address or registration
  • Pressure to sign on the first visit
  • A demand for full payment up front
  • An offer to cover or waive your insurance deductible
  • Refusal to put warranty terms in writing
  • A quote that will not itemize scope

HVAC companies in Victoria FAQs

  • How much does a heat pump cost in Victoria?

It depends on the house, the system type and how much ductwork or electrical work is needed, and none of the companies on this list publish fixed prices. Get at least two written quotes with equipment model numbers, and ask each company which BC Hydro, FortisBC or CRD rebates your home qualifies for.

  • How do I check if a Victoria heating contractor is licensed?

Ask for the company's Technical Safety BC licence number and check it with Technical Safety BC before any gas furnace, fireplace or boiler work. Foster, The Comfort Group and Gaslight publish their numbers online.

  • Which Victoria HVAC companies offer 24/7 service?

Foster, Milani, The Comfort Group, Accutemp, Aire Serv and Uptown advertise 24-hour or emergency service. Method Air, Coastal Heat Pumps, RedBlue and Gaslight do not advertise 24/7 service.
